Job Summary
Consistent with Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center healing mission and core values, the Room Service Assistant is responsible for quality food service and proper food handling for patients and staff.
Is able to accurately check and deliver patient meal trays.
Is able to make hospitality rounds at all meal service periods.
Is able to assist patients of all ages with daily menu preferences.
Responsible for assuring diets provided to patients are in accordance with physician's order and accepted diet manual for our facility.
Accurately prepares nourishments and "Late" Trays in a timely manner.
Additionally, is able to maintain unit pantry stock levels, keep pantry refrigerators clean and sanitized.
Able to interact and communicate with customers of all groups, including newborn to geriatrics in accordance with our mission statement & in a wholesome, sanitary manner which is compliant to dietary restrictions (when indicated).
Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Training: Two to four days of training required for the position, depending on previous experience.
Experience: On the job training provided.
Previous experience with food services desired, but not required.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must be able to work quickly and efficiently in a semi-structured work environment while maintaining an orderly environment.
Must be able to think logically to make decisions based upon experience and training.
Able to assist patients with menu selections and have a full understanding of special diets for all age groups.
Ability to read, comprehend and follow both verbal and written instructions and computer-generated data.
The ability to be team player with much focus on excellent customer service skills when dealing with patients, guests, hospital staff, and fellow dietary employees.
Employee able to speak clearly to all patients and read at a twelfth grade level.
Performance Requirements Responsible For: Assisting patients with menu selections with appropriate diet restrictions and according to diet manual.
Communicates effectively with call center staff regarding patient preferences.
Prepares information correctly for supplements and snacks in accordance with diet manual with specific focus on basic diet restrictions, carbohydrate allowance, fluid restrictions, and allergies.
Serving food in an attractive manner with attention paid to presentation and quality.
Physical Demands: Employee must be able to reach, grasp, circular motions of wrists and shoulders, finger/manual dexterity, fine motor skills, bend, stand, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50# with assistance.
Ability to stand or walk most of the day.
Ability to see, read and write.
Works in a well-lighted, noisy, often warm area.
Special Demands: Must be able to read, assist patients as needed with menu selection, and be familiar with diet modifications.
Delivers all patient meals with much focus on customer service skills and hospitality as evidenced by assisting with tray set up, assisting with cutting up foods as needed, opening food products and retrieves requested food items from the patient.

(25%) * Assesses each patient's ability to participate in room service program by indicating Room Service Appropriate, Room Service Assist, and Room Service Not Appropriate.
* Uses appropriate bedside menu selection technique when working with patients and families.
* Provides each patient on Room Service Assistance with menu selection RSA patients should be completed in a timely manner.
* Uses menu alternatives for patients dissatisfied with suggested menu choices.

Checks and delivers patient's meal trays.
(25%) * Accurately checks meal selections with appropriate diets and meal ticket on tray.
* Knocks and identifies self upon entering room * Delivers tray to appropriate patient by checking two patient identifiers * Has an eye for detail and follows tray presentation guidelines and informs Expeditor if there is any issues with presentation 3.
Responsible for hospitality rounds for assigned units.
(10%) * Enters every room where a patient received a meal tray.
* Follows up with the patient to see if the meal was satisfactory.
* Keeps the hospitality basket stocked and available.

Prepares all meals, late trays, and nourishments in a clean, safe, sanitary manner as assigned and follows food handling guidelines while preparing food to ensure a high quality product.

* Delivers nourishments at appropriate time to patient's room 5.
Maintains unit pantry stock levels.
(10%) * Keeps all refrigerator units clean and orderly, monitors dates on all opened food items daily * Discards outdated products on the evening shift so as not to leave for the morning shift * Maintains par levels of all snacks on units while keeping costs to a minimum.
